In this book devoted to “life-threatening emergencies,” leading experts in emergency medicine provide an update on your knowledge in six chapters, enabling you to identify patients in life-threatening situations and improve their care during the first hour. In each of the six chapters, an expert discusses pediatric specifics.

The first chapter deals with non-traumatic shock states and their pathophysiological characteristics from a macro- and microcirculatory perspective. The second part of the chapter addresses etiological diagnosis and treatment, and concludes with the monitoring of these patients.

The second chapter covers all aspects of the initial care of patients in acute respiratory distress: telephone assessment during dispatch, prehospital referral, triage on arrival at the emergency department, respiratory support, surveillance and monitoring, and the diagnostic process.

In the third chapter, you will learn about the entire process of managing coma during the first hour: medical dispatch, triage, assessment, diagnostic orientation, and monitoring.

In the fourth chapter, you will learn how to recognize, assess, and treat a severely traumatized patient.

The fifth chapter addresses circumstantial pathologies.

Finally, the last chapter covers the key points of optimal organization for the care of patients in critical condition, from the emergency call to the end of resuscitation, taking into account a wide range of parameters, including the human factor.
