A comprehensive guide to proposing, implementing, and evaluating necessary changes to health policies and systems.

Around the world and for a variety of reasons, health systems are facing challenges that are straining their organizations, financing, and founding principles. Public health—defined as “the sum of knowledge, skills, practices, and legal rules aimed at understanding, explaining, preserving, protecting, and promoting the health of people”—seeks to promote the health of all people through an approach that must be equitable and fair in terms of access to care.

The need to assess the challenges ahead and recent developments has guided the drafting of this new edition. The foundations and main functions of public health, the current situation and organizations in France and internationally, the different approaches based on risk factors and pathologies, and preventive measures are all covered in detail in this collective work, which provides healthcare professionals, those involved in governance and decision-making bodies, researchers, and students with the keys to understanding public health in the 21st century.

This book is an indispensable tool for working to improve the health of populations.
